From May 13 to September 26
New temporary exhibition “Le Grand Bal Dior”.
The Christian Dior museum, the famous fashion
designer’s childhood villa, is a landmark that evokes
the ambiance and lifestyle of the early 20th century.
The theme of the summer 2010 exhibition, the
museum’s annual public showing, will be “Le Grand
Bal Dior”. This event will present the main balls
and galas of the twentieth century that gave Christian
Dior inspiration for his extraordinary creations
starting in 1947: dresses, accessories, perfumes.
The fashion designer himself, in costume dress,
participated in several memorable balls, and particularly
the legendary ball thrown by Charles de
Beistegui in Venice in 1951, the 18th century
masked costume ball at the Palazzo Labia, often
called the “party of the century”.
«LE GRAND BAL DIOR»
Through a selection of costumes, decorations,
original texts, manuscripts, film and musical
extracts evoking these balls, the exhibition will
revive an era when excessiveness rivalled fantasy
and will place the Maison Dior’s creations in a rich
cultural and artistic context. The exhibition will also
feature contemporary pieces including the creations
of John Galliano, who often draws his inspiration from history. Moreover, it will present the sumptuous
balls thrown for the launch of Dior Perfumes.
This summer, the costume ball spirit will reign over
Granville and the “Les Rhumbs” villa.
The garden will remain open to the public at no
charge and will offer a line-up of open-access Christian
Dior films and fashion shows to complement
this exceptional exhibition.
