RICHARD ANACRÉON, BOOK SELLER AND COLLECTOR
Paris, the Latin Quarter after the war. A friend to artists. A native of Granville, bookseller in Paris in the forties, Richard Anacréon (1908-1992) gifted his collection of paintings and books to his native city in the eighties. A collection of great names, those of the artist and writer friends that visited his bookshop, l’Originale.
MODERN ART
Early 20th century to the fifties.
Cross, Luce, Signac, Picabia, Derain, Vlaminck, Utrillo,
Van Dongen… From the dawn of the twentieth
century to the fifties, a collection of paintings signed
by the greatest artists of their time, reflecting the taste
of an enlightened art lover, Richard Anacréon.
RARE BOOKS
Original editions and illustrated books.
First edition of XXth century major writers, novelists
and poets: Guillaume Apollinaire, Jean Cocteau, Paul
Valéry, Colette, André Malraux… Rare and precious
books nowadays, often illustrated by some of the
main illustrators of the XXth century first half.
WRITING
Letters and authentic manuscripts of writers.
Tucked in the books, handwritten letters by the
authors testifying to their friendship for the bookseller
Richard Anacréon bring movingly to life the man
behind the poet or the writer, the cultural life of postwar
Paris.

A look at a collection of artwork
from the 20th century
New arrangement of the painting collection.
From May 12 to October 26
Jacques Le Chevallier (1896-1987). Modern light
Exhibition dedicated to an artist who would devote
his life to art and the pursuit of light through multiple
means of expression: painting, engraving, glass,
illustration, decoration. Three aspects of Jacques Le
Chevallier’s work will be presented simultaneously
at three partner venues: L’Abbaye d’Hambye, the
Avranches Art and History Museum and the Richard
Anacreon Museum of Modern Art.
You can admire the Notre Dame cathedral’s stained
glass windows that he designed.

portraits immerse you in the universe of this writer
who visited Richard Anacréon and its bookstore
